Toni Braxton & Babyface: Love Marriage & Divorce (Motown)

If love serenades are a timeless tradition, then so is the break-up song. It remains at the beating heart of contemporary pop releases, although there are also undeniable classics: no record has depicted divorce with a spikier sense of soul than Marvin Gaye’s 1978 album, Here My Dear.

Bluntly titled US r’n’b collaboration Love Marriage & Divorce reignites a musical union that first sparked in 1992 (on the upbeat Give U My Heart) between husky-toned vocalist Toni Braxton and singer-songwriter/producer Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. Both have experienced award-winning fame since then, as well as marriage splits – and Braxton has combined incredible candour with mainstream glossiness, even starring with her singer sisters in reality TV show Braxton Family Values.

The duo’s delivery still feels smoothly matched on Love Marriage & Divorce and if there’s a throwback to the rich 1990s r’n’b sound that Babyface pioneered, that’s no bad thing.

It’s quickly evident that there won’t be any personal revelations here, though: these numbers feel evenly handled but rather measured, both sides playing the sensitively heartbroken role.

Roller Coaster charts the ups and downs of a love affair (‘Cause I love you, hate you’). Sadly, Braxton doesn’t flaunt her speciality of singing raunchy lyrics while sounding deceptively demure. Emotions run warm and cold on Take It Back and Reunited, while The D Word expresses tasteful regret, like a maudlin Valentine’s card.

There is a definite chemistry between these famous talents but they’re not succumbing to any wild passions here – though the fabulous shimmy of Heart Attack offers an uplift from the balladry. Braxton and Babyface go through the slick motions when this could have been sealed with a kick. Shree krishna bhajan in hindi.

Toni Braxton Speaks On Her Relationship With Birdman

Yes, Toni Braxton is still booed up with Birdman and yes, she’s well aware of the unusualness of their relationship. The singer recently gushed over her coupledom with the Cash Money head on “Braxton Family Values” and told her sis Towanda that Bryan “Beatrice” Williams gives her butterflies.

“B [Birdman] called me the other day, yesterday actually, and he was just like, ‘T, I want you to hang out with me, whatever it is, let’s just do something’. I have anxiety and bubbles in my tummy and stuff. I don’t know what’s going on with me,” said Toni.

She then revealed that she has some hangups about being happy and confessed that she’s rarely happy outside of work…

“You ever been scared to be happy?” said Toni.” I haven’t been happy in a long time outside of work. Work brings me extreme happiness. When I’m on stage and I’m performing, that’s the only time that I get those butterflies and I feel totally happy with my life. A romantic relationship? I haven’t had time for that — I should say, I chose not to make time for it but it’s right here in front of my face: happiness.”

and added that she never would’ve imagined being booed up with “B.”

“It’s the weirdest thing. Ten years ago, I never would’ve imagined me and B would be here. Who knows, this could be a great love affair.”

Awww Toni, let Baby love you boo.
